Sabi Chef, a street food cooking competition stormed a number of major markets in Lagos state to sensitise residents, traders, chefs and vendors about the upcoming show.
The street activation which started at the popular Tejuosho market, Yaba saw many Sabi Chef ambassadors move from shop to shop, street to street speaking with and on-boarding prospective participants at the cooking competition and food festival.
The show scheduled to hold on December 8 at the Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island will witness many side attractions including good music, dancing competition, games, food tasting and family oriented merriment.
During the week-long street sensitisation activities, other markets and areas visited in Lagos include: Lagos Island, Ikorodu, Ogba and Oshodi.
Many fans of the show won various cash and other prizes for participating in dance, quizzes and other recreational activities.
The fun-filled street activation event witnessed a large turn out of people at every centre, thus showing how much the people have quickly embraced the competition.
Speaking on the street activation, Uche Nnadozie, the Editor-in-chief of Newspread.ng, the online publication who are the organisers of Sabi Chef expressed joy over the incident-free week-long activities.
“We are very proud of what we have done. Engaging with the streets directly for a show that is meant for the street. No incident whatsoever, thus showing how safe our city is and how much the streets trust us to organise a show for them,” he said.
“We were well received everywhere we went. The young and old came out to participate and were enchanted by the opportunity to shine.”
Also speaking during his stop at the Ikorodu event, Shola Ewuola, the CEO of the parent company of Newspread.ng and Chairman of NT News Ltd, said, “I am happy with the acceptance shown by our people. They own this process. They own the show. We just want to give back to the streets, to recognise the talents on our streets and elevate them to a global audience.”
“Our culinary diversity is a thing of joy. It has fed millions and given millions of opportunities to earn a living. We are determined to host an incredible show come December 8. Even more, we shall take Sabi Chef to the UK next year where we’ll be displaying/showcasing our naija street food cuisine & culture to a global audience.”
Nnadozie further urged Lagosians to visit www.sabichef.com to pre-register to attend the grand finale of the show. He said admission is free.
