Amid the recent controversy involving popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, widely known as KWAM 1 or K1 De Ultimate, a name has emerged at the centre of the airport altercation — Captain Oluranti Ogoyi, the female pilot who reportedly enforced aviation safety regulations aboard a ValueJet flight.
Fondly called Rantilicious by her friends and colleagues, Captain Oluranti is no stranger to discipline and professionalism in the cockpit. She is the daughter of Nigerian politician, Senator Felix Kola Ogunwale, who represented Osun Central in the National Assembly between 2003 and 2007.
With over a decade of flying experience, Oluranti began her career at Arik Air where she steadily rose through the ranks. Her promotion to full captain came in September 2021, a milestone marked by a formal decoration ceremony led by top aviation executives including Arik Air CEO, Captain Roy Ilegbodu; Director of Flight Operations, Captain Adetokunbo Adekunbi; and current NCAA Director-General, Captain Chris Najomo.
After several years at Arik, she joined ValueJet, where she continues to command flights with precision and professionalism.
She is married to fellow aviator, Captain Isaac Ogoyi Jr, who also flew with Arik before moving to RwandAir and now Uganda Airlines.
Captain Oluranti’s profile has risen to national prominence following her firm handling of the situation involving K1 De Ultimate — a development that has drawn praise from aviation professionals and the public alike, reinforcing the importance of safety and adherence to regulations within Nigeria’s airspace.
