The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN) as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), following a rigorous screening session at plenary.

Amupitan, a distinguished legal scholar from Kogi State and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) at the University of Jos, succeeds Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who led the Commission for a decade.

During his screening, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria pledged to collaborate closely with institutions such as the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and other relevant stakeholders to enhance transparency, efficiency, and credibility in Nigeria’s electoral process.
