President Bola Tinubu has nominated Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, immediate past sole administrator of Rivers State and former Chief of Naval Staff, as a non-career ambassador.
Also on the new list are Ita Enang, former senator; Chioma Ohakim, former First Lady of Imo State; and Abdulrahman Dambazau, former Minister of Interior and ex-Chief of Army Staff.
Their names were not included in the earlier batch of ambassadorial nominees released by the presidency.
The nominations were transmitted to the Senate in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Thursday’s plenary. In the correspondence, President Tinubu urged lawmakers to fast-track their consideration to fill critical diplomatic postings.
Akpabio subsequently referred the nominations to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, directing the panel to conclude its screening and submit a report within one week.
The president had earlier nominated Reno Omokri, former presidential aide; Femi Fani-Kayode, former aviation minister; and Mahmood Yakubu, immediate past INEC chairman, as ambassadors.
