The Rivers State House of Assembly has formally initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Oduh.
At a plenary session on Thursday, broadcast live on Channels Television, Speaker Martins Amaewhule presided over the reading of a notice of allegations and gross misconduct against Governor Fubara. The notice, signed by 26 lawmakers, accused the governor of violating provisions of the Nigerian Constitution.
Amaewhule disclosed that the notice would be formally served on the governor within seven days.
In a related development, the Deputy Majority Leader, Linda Stewart, read a separate notice outlining allegations of gross misconduct against Deputy Governor Oduh.
The move marks a major political development in Rivers State, as the House begins the constitutional process that could lead to the removal of the state’s top executive officials.
