Dr Adedeji Adeleke, father of music star David Adeleke (Davido), has clarified that although DNA tests confirmed that Anuoluwapo is not Davido’s biological daughter, he has continued to sponsor the education and welfare of the girl and her mother.
Speaking at a news conference in Lagos on Wednesday, Adeleke said the briefing was necessary to address reports suggesting that Anuoluwapo remained Davido’s child despite DNA evidence proving otherwise.
He explained that he became involved after Anuoluwapo’s aunt, a scientist, contacted him for assistance—not on the basis of family ties, but as humanitarian support. According to him, the aunt independently reviewed the DNA results from two different laboratories and confirmed their consistency.
Adeleke said he subsequently took responsibility for Anuoluwapo’s education and upkeep. He also enrolled the girl’s mother at Adeleke University under a work-study programme for mature students, providing her accommodation and a monthly stipend of N50,000. However, she later dropped out after her second year, despite recording good academic performance while studying English.
He added that the opportunity to complete her education remains open and suggested that if she returns, Anuoluwapo could also be enrolled at Adeleke University High School on scholarship.
Adeleke noted that through his Springtime Foundation, he supports no fewer than 3,000 students at any given time, stressing that his actions were driven by compassion and a long-standing commitment to education.
