The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed as false and baseless reports suggesting that Vice President Kashim Shettima may be replaced as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a press statement issued in Abuja on Monday, January 26, 2026, the party said it had observed a growing media frenzy surrounding alleged plans to substitute the Vice President, noting that the speculation had recently escalated to the mention of specific individuals as possible replacements.
The APC stated categorically that such reports were entirely speculative and untrue, warning that they were capable of creating unnecessary tension and confusion within the polity.
The party urged media organisations to exercise restraint and avoid providing platforms for what it described as rumour-peddlers and dubious sources bent on sowing discord.
According to the APC, political activities remain prohibited under existing laws and electoral regulations, stressing that discussions about the 2027 elections are premature. The party said its current priority is to support President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima in the implementation of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
It added that the reforms being pursued by the Tinubu administration are already yielding results in transforming the economy, promoting prosperity, and improving the living standards of Nigerians.
The APC also called on ministers, senior government officials, and party leaders to refrain from actions or comments that could fuel unnecessary speculation, urging them instead to focus on effective service delivery and strengthening the achievements of the current administration.
The statement was signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, CON.
