DSS arrests five security officers over bribery linked to el-Rufai airport incident

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested five security officers over alleged bribery involving former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, following his return to Nigeria a few weeks ago.

According to the DSS, a joint investigation conducted alongside the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), and the Federal Ministry of Aviation uncovered the officers’ roles in the incident.

The officers identified are:
Ayuba Yakubu (ASP) – Police
Murtala Inuwa – DSS
Najeeb Murtala (ASI) – NIS
Musa Adamu – Aviation Security (AVSEC)
Salihu Victor – AVSEC
The DSS said the officers have been handed over to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for prosecution.

In a statement, the agency disclosed that the suspects allegedly confessed to receiving bribes to grant unauthorised access to restricted airport areas and to obstruct lawful security operations. The DSS described the development as a serious insider compromise of critical national infrastructure.

Meanwhile, additional personnel from the NIS and NCS who were found to have facilitated unauthorised access without receiving bribes will face administrative sanctions for abusing their official positions
