Tinubu: Nigeria-UK alliance key to combating Sahel terrorism

President Bola Tinubu has emphasised that Nigeria’s partnership with the United Kingdom is crucial in addressing terrorism across the Sahel region.

Speaking at a state banquet held at Windsor Castle in honour of his visit, Tinubu highlighted the long-standing relationship between Nigeria and the UK, rooted in shared democratic values, cultural ties, and a strong diaspora presence, which he described as a vital bridge between both nations.

The president noted that Nigeria plays a major role in maintaining stability in West Africa, particularly as the region continues to face persistent insurgency threats linked to the Sahel.

He expressed optimism that ongoing engagements with the UK, including a planned meeting with Keir Starmer, would further strengthen cooperation in critical areas such as security, trade, investment, and cultural exchange.

Tinubu added that despite security challenges, Nigeria remains hopeful, driven by a youthful and ambitious population determined to achieve its full potential.

Members of the Nigerian delegation on the visit include Christopher Musa, Nuhu Ribadu, and Mohammed Mohammed, reflecting the importance of defence and intelligence collaboration in the bilateral discussions.
