Abiodun accuses Gbenga Daniel of political betrayal, media attacks

Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun State, has accused Gbenga Daniel, senator representing Ogun East, of sponsoring negative media campaigns against him despite his past support for Daniel’s political rise.

Speaking at an APC stakeholders’ meeting in Ogun East, Abiodun said he played a key role in Daniel’s emergence as senator, including mobilising political structures and facilitating consensus among aspirants.

The governor expressed disappointment, claiming that Daniel’s recent actions — including purchasing a nomination form to seek re-election — go against the party’s consensus arrangement that endorsed him for the 2027 senatorial race.

Daniel, a former governor of Ogun State, had earlier rejected the endorsement process, describing decisions from the APC caucus meeting as invalid after he was excluded.

Abiodun also stated that he helped reintegrate Daniel into the party and described the current situation as a betrayal of trust.

Despite the rift, the governor reaffirmed confidence in APC unity in Ogun State and pledged support for the party’s broader electoral goals ahead of the 2027 elections.
