Otti: LP rejects Ibadan coalition, insists on fielding presidential candidate

Alex Otti, governor of Abia State, has clarified that the Labour Party (LP) was not part of the recent opposition summit held in Ibadan, Oyo State, where some parties agreed to present a joint presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.

The summit, attended by groups including the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), proposed a united front ahead of the next general election.

Speaking after a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja, Otti said LP is not bound by the decisions reached at the gathering and will independently field its own presidential candidate.

He emphasized that the party remains open to all aspirants and will conduct a convention to select its flagbearer.

Otti also revealed that efforts are ongoing to reconcile internal differences within the party, including moves to reintegrate former national chairman Julius Abure and other aggrieved members.

He expressed confidence in the Nenadi Usman-led NWC and reaffirmed that LP has no intention of merging with or collapsing into any other political party.
