APC adopts direct primary for Saturday’s 2026 presidential ticket

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has approved guidelines for its 2026 presidential primary election, adopting a direct primary system across the country’s 8,809 wards.

In a statement issued by APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, the party said the National Working Committee (NWC) also approved the presidential primary election committee, appeal committee, and state coordinators for the exercise.

Under the guidelines, all registered APC members will vote for their preferred presidential aspirants, while results from the 774 local government areas will be collated by designated officers and submitted to the presidential primary election committee in Abuja on May 23, 2026.

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Anyim, was named chairman of the presidential primary election committee. Other members include former Senate President Ken Nnamani, former Senate Leader Victor Ndoma-Egba, former Speaker Yakubu Dogara, and former Kogi State Governor Idris Wada.

The party also appointed former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari as chairman of the appeal committee, alongside Samuel Piwuna and former House of Representatives Speaker Patricia Etteh.

Among those named as state coordinators are Hope Uzodimma for Imo, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for Kwara, Ahmadu Fintiri for Adamawa, Babagana Zulum for Borno, Siminalayi Fubara for Rivers, Dauda Lawal for Zamfara, Teslim Folarin for Oyo, and Uche Ekwunife for Anambra.
