Edo lecturer dies after alleged sex romp in hotel

A senior lecturer at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Dr Matthew Uwuigbe, has died after allegedly collapsing in a hotel room following an encounter with a 21-year-old commercial sex worker in Ekpoma, Edo State.

The incident occurred on Sunday at a hotel in the Mosco area of Esan West Local Government Area.

According to the Edo State Police Command, Uwuigbe had lodged at the hotel with the woman, identified as Angela Defa Jacob.

The police spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, said on October 5, the command received a report that the lecturer had engaged the services of the woman.

Ikoedem said Uwuigbe subsequently sent Jacob to get water for him, but when she returned, she found him lying dead in the room.

Three people, including the hotel owner, manager and the woman, have been arrested in connection with the incident, while investigation is ongoing.

The police spokesperson added that the lecturer’s remains had been deposited at the Oriaifo Memorial Hospital mortuary.

Meanwhile, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Otunba Mike Ade Aladenika, confirmed that Uwuigbe was a staff member of the institution but stressed that the incident occurred outside the university.

“We are not denying that he is our staff, but whatever he did and what happened, it is his private life. The girl in question is not our student, and everything happened outside our institution,” he said.
