Aiding murder: Ogun debunks ‘malicious report’ against Attorney-General

The Ogun State Government has denied a report accusing its Attorney-General, Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN), of attempting to free murder suspects.

The government described the report as “lopsided and malicious,” stating that it was fabricated to preempt the Attorney-General’s review of misconduct and complicity in an ongoing criminal enterprise by officers and men of Nigerian Police Force Zone 2, Lagos State.

The state claims that the dispute revolves around a land management issue between two local land agents in Ogun State.

One side has allegedly used the police and law enforcement to persecute the other, lodging false reports and producing coached witnesses whose testimonies have been discredited, according to a statement by the government.

Despite the Ogun State Police Command’s investigation and credible witness testimonies refuting the allegations, the AIG Zone 2, Fayoade, attempted to hijack the case.

The Lagos State Magistrate’s Court and two other courts in Ogun State have rejected applications for remand and detention warrants, ordering the police to arraign the suspect instead.

The Ogun State Government has condemned the police’s actions, stating that they have made themselves “willing tools in the hands of lawbreakers, rights breachers, and land grabbers.”

The government has vowed to utilize its powers under the Administration of Criminal Justice Law 2017 to protect the public interest and prevent abuse of the court system.
