Usman Buda, was on Sunday lynched to death by an angry mob in Sokoto state.
This was made known by the state police command, who reported that he was killed for blasphemy.
Confirming the development, the command’s spokesperson, ASP Ahmad Rufai, said that Usman Buda lived in Gwandu Local Government Area, and was a butcher at the Sokoto Abattoir. He was on the verge of being lynched by a mob for alleged blasphemy of the Holy Prophet when a distress call was made to the state’s police command at 9:20 am.
In his statement, the spokesperson noted that the Commissioner of Police, Area Commander Metro, and DPO Kwanni dispatched a squad of police officers along with all other operational commanders to the scene after getting the call.
The mob apparently separated when they saw police officers and left the victim for dead.
The victim was saved and transported to the Usmanu Danfodio University Teaching Hospital for medical care. However, he was eventually pronounced dead.
According to the police, investigation is being conducted to identify, apprehend and mete out appropriate punishment to the offenders.
