Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, Ayra Starr miss out at 2026 Grammys

Top Nigerian artistes Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, Ayra Starr and Omah Lay were unsuccessful in their respective categories at the 2026 Grammy Awards, held on February 2 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The ceremony was hosted by South African comedian Trevor Noah.

In the Best African Music Performance category, South Africa’s Tyla emerged winner, beating nominees including Burna Boy (Love), Wizkid & Ayra Starr (Gimme Dat), Davido & Omah Lay (With You), and Ugandan star Eddy Kenzo featuring Mehran Matin (Hope & Love).

Burna Boy also missed out in the Best Global Music Album category, where his project lost to Éclairer le monde: Light the World by Senegalese legend Youssou N’Dour.

The win marks Tyla’s second Grammy in the African performance category, having first claimed the award in 2024 for her global hit Water. In 2025, Nigeria’s Tems won the same category with Love Me JeJe, edging out a strong lineup that included Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, Davido, Lojay and Burna Boy.
