A Federal High Court in Abuja has overruled Nnamdi Kanu’s challenge to its jurisdiction and ordered him to enter his defense on terrorism charges.
The ruling came after a dramatic hearing where Kanu’s entire team of senior lawyers withdrew from the case, citing his decision to take back control of his defense. Kanu, who confirmed he would represent himself, immediately argued the court lacked jurisdiction, citing a previous appellate court ruling, repealed laws, and denied fair hearing.
The prosecution countered that the Supreme Court had already overturned the appellate judgment he relied on. Justice James Omotosho held that the issues raised had been previously decided and urged Kanu to use his constitutional right to defend himself.
After Kanu requested more time to prepare, the judge adjourned the case until October 24 for the IPOB leader to open his defense.
