DSS nabs notorious blogger behind fake recruitment websites, online scams

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a notorious blogger accused of cloning its official website and publishing fraudulent recruitment notices designed to deceive and defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.

The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Sylvester Victor Augustus, hails from Abak Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State. He was apprehended by DSS operatives on Thursday at his residence on Akpan Eno Lane, Abak, following a meticulous investigation.

Augustus, who claims to be a graduate of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO), is known as a blogger and content creator. He allegedly created a counterfeit version of the DSS website, where he posted fake recruitment advertisements to lure unsuspecting victims into his fraudulent schemes.

Reacting to the incident, the DSS denounced the fake recruitment notice and warned the public to remain vigilant against such online scams. A statement from the agency emphasized its commitment to combating fraudsters who exploit digital platforms for illegal activities.

Reliable sources disclosed that the DSS is intensifying efforts to crack down on cybercriminals operating fake websites and social media accounts for blackmail, extortion, and other fraudulent purposes.

In addition to Augustus, other individuals suspected of engaging in similar fraudulent activities are under investigation. Those arrested are being charged in courts across the country, as the DSS continues its mission to ensure accountability and protect Nigerians from digital fraud.

The public is urged to verify information through official government channels and report any suspicious online activities to the relevant authorities.
