DSS raises alarm over imminent ISWAP attacks in Ondo, Kogi communities

The Department of State Services (DSS) has raised the alarm over credible intelligence indicating plans by members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) to launch coordinated attacks on communities in Ondo and Kogi States.

In an internal security memo dated October 20, 2025, and addressed to the Brigade Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Owena Cantonment, Akure, the DSS warned that the terror group had begun surveillance on several soft targets in parts of Ondo State.

According to the document, the identified targets include Eriti-Akoko and Oyin-Akoko communities in Akoko North-West Local Government Area, as well as Owo town in Owo Local Government Area.

The intelligence report indicated that ISWAP operatives were planning simultaneous strikes in both states and had already initiated reconnaissance missions in the targeted areas.

The DSS therefore urged security agencies to heighten vigilance and intensify patrols in the affected communities to forestall any possible attack.

The alert, signed on behalf of the State Director of Security, emphasized the need for proactive measures to prevent loss of lives and property, stressing that the intelligence should be acted upon “to forestall any untoward situation.”
