EFCC confirms arrest of Martins Otse amid allegations of ‘serious financial crimes’

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially confirmed the arrest and detention of Martins Innocent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, following numerous petitions alleging his involvement in significant financial crimes.

In a detailed statement, the EFCC disclosed that Otse consistently ignored formal invitations to assist with their investigation, a decision that ultimately led to his arrest. The Commission characterized the allegations as serious, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive inquiry into the matter.

While acknowledging that Otse has been a vocal critic of the Commission’s operations, the EFCC stressed that his arrest was solely based on the gravity of the allegations against him and was not swayed by his public remarks. “The EFCC has the lawful authority to detain Otse, just as it does with any other suspect under investigation,” the statement read, noting that an appropriate Remand Order was obtained.

Otse has been granted administrative bail and is expected to be released once he meets all stipulated bail conditions.

In response to growing public concern surrounding the arrest, the EFCC urged Nigerians to allow the Commission to fulfill its legal mandate without undue speculation or interference. It assured the public that charges will be formally filed once the investigations are concluded.

The EFCC reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to combating economic and financial crimes, pledging to act without fear or favor.
