EFCC investigates suspects in Kano for possession of fake $899,800

The Kano Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has initiated an investigation into two suspects arrested with counterfeit currency amounting to $899,800 (Eight Hundred and Ninety-Nine Thousand, Eight Hundred United States Dollars).

The suspects, identified as Abubakar Hussaini, 42, and Sahabi Adamu, 53, were initially intercepted by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) along Maiduguri Road in Wudil, Kano State. They were traveling in a commercial Golf 3 Station Wagon en route to Kila Village in Gwaram Local Government Area (LGA) of Jigawa State.

During a routine search, NDLEA officials discovered the suspected fake notes concealed within a Maggi Star seasoning carton. Subsequently, the suspects, along with the counterfeit currency, were handed over to the EFCC for further investigation.

Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects were transporting the counterfeit currency to Kila Village to meet one Muhammad Walo. Walo was reportedly set to introduce them to Mallam Mashiru, a self-proclaimed spiritualist who claims he can “transform” counterfeit dollars into genuine currency through ritual prayers.

The suspects are expected to be charged in court once the investigation is concluded.
