Lawyer to the President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Femi Falana (SAN) has revealed that his client, Joe Ajaero was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Monday morning while on his way to the United Kingdom .

Speaking during an interview in Abuja, Falana said, “The invitation to Comrade Joe Ajaero by the police was rescheduled last week. I have contacted the police authorities. The arrest is not related to the police invitation.

Earlier on Monday, Ajaero was picked up at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Ajaero was about to board a flight to the United Kingdom, UK, for an official assignment when he was picked up by the DSS officials.

Although details of the arrest and the reasons are still sketchy, sources said he has been handed over to the National Intelligence Agency, NIA. According to sources, Ajaero was billed to attend the conference of Trade Union Congress, TUC, in the UK holding today.

This comes barely a week after he was invited by the police to answer questions over his alleged involvement in terrorism financing.
