The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is poised to initiate the construction of a new headquarters for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the prestigious Maitama district of the nation’s capital.
Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, announced that President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to officially launch the construction next week. This announcement aligns with Wike’s previous statement in May, indicating that Tinubu would inaugurate completed projects and initiate new ones in the FCT to commemorate his second anniversary in office.
Among the various projects being undertaken by the FCTA, notable initiatives include the recently renovated Abuja International Conference Centre (AICC), as well as the construction of bus terminals in Kugbo and Mabushi. Additionally, infrastructure improvements such as the Apo-Wassa Road and a series of interchanges and access roads are planned to enhance connectivity throughout the region.
The ongoing developments encompass significant road projects, including:
– The N16 interchange and roads linking Maitama to Katampe and Jahi
– The inner northern expressway from Ring Road 3 (Idu to Kubwa road)
– CN8 connecting from N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way) to the Court of Appeal
– The N20 flyover on the Onnex Kubwa road
– The Life Camp junction connecting to Ring Road III
Further road improvements include the Kabusa-Takushara Access road, Kabusa-Ketti Access Road, a new access road in Giri District, and a 15km road connecting A2 Junction Abuja-Lokoja Road to Pai in the Kwali Area Council, among others in Ushafa, War College, and the Army checkpoint in Bwari Area Council.
These developments signify the government’s commitment to enhancing the infrastructure of the Federal Capital Territory, providing improved access and facilities for citizens and government agencies alike.
