First Lady champions health and empowerment in Enugu, downplays partisan affiliation

In a heartfelt commitment to enhancing health and wellbeing across Nigeria, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu made an important visit to Enugu State, where she distributed professional kits to midwives and advocated for the health of women and girls.

During her two-day working visit, Senator Tinubu engaged with traditional rulers, emphasizing the nation’s diversity as a strength that should be harnessed for collective growth. “As leaders, we are responsible to take care of all Nigeria, political affiliation notwithstanding,” she stated, urging local leaders to support her initiatives against diseases such as cervical cancer and HIV/AIDS, as well as harmful cultural practices like Female Genital Mutilation.

The First Lady expressed optimism about the future, stating, “Nigeria is a beautiful country, and no one should hinder anyone from visiting any part of the country.” She called for improved security to allow citizens to experience the richness of the nation.

Highlighting the initiatives of the Renewed Hope Initiative, Senator Tinubu announced programs such as “Flow with Confidence,” aimed at ensuring adolescent girls do not miss school due to menstrual challenges, and the Environment Club, intended to mobilize youth to participate in environmental restoration.

At the event, traditional council chairman His Royal Highness Samuel Asadu praised the eradication of unsafe cultural practices in Enugu and acknowledged the dedication of both the First Lady and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to national improvement.

During the kits presentation to midwives, Senator Tinubu concluded the distribution of 50,000 scrubs and 50,000 pairs of crocs across the six geopolitical zones, marking Enugu as the final stop. In his remarks, Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah lauded the First Lady as “the Florence Nightingale of this time,” recognizing her decisive action on pressing health issues.

The event also included a significant announcement: a grant of N50 million was allocated for distribution to 1,000 women petty traders in Enugu State under the Renewed Hope Initiative.

The First Lady’s visit underscores a strong commitment to fostering health, empowerment, and collaboration across Nigeria, transcending political boundaries for the nation’s collective benefit.
