French president ‘shoved’ by wife as they arrive Vietnam sparking social media storm

A video featuring French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte has taken social media by storm, capturing a “lighthearted moment” of bickering as they arrived in Vietnam for a Southeast Asian trip.

As the presidential plane’s door opened, footage revealed Brigitte playfully shoving Macron’s face while the couple appeared to engage in a light-hearted disagreement. The scene unfolded with Macron appearing sternly to address his wife, only to be met with her hands lifting to his face in what looks like a playful jab.

The clip, recorded at Hanoi airport, shows Macron initially surprised by the commotion, but he quickly regains his composure and gestures to the swarm of cameras positioned at the bottom of the plane steps. The couple then descends together, with Brigitte gripping the handrail for balance, perhaps after their spirited exchange.

Reactions poured in on social media, with one user commenting, “Actually concerning – where this is done in public; imagine what happens behind closed doors…” while another remarked, “That’s weird.” A third user quipped, “I think she was trying to clean something on his nose.”

Initially dismissing the footage as fake, Macron’s office later confirmed its authenticity following verification by French media, as reported by The Sun. An unnamed insider claimed it was merely a moment of ‘bickering’ and ‘complicity’ between the couple, and not a cause for alarm.

Having begun dating Brigitte, his former literature teacher who was a mother of three, when he was just fifteen, Macron is no stranger to public scrutiny. He is currently on a weeklong diplomatic tour of Southeast Asia, which includes stops in Singapore and Indonesia. Over the years, Macron has faced a barrage of conspiracy theories and deepfakes, including false claims regarding his wife’s gender, which he has condemned as malevolent attacks on women.
