In a major breakthrough, the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) in Ghana has arrested a suspected Nigerian drug kingpin, Uchechukwu Chima, in an intelligence-led raid at his hideout in Accra.
The 56-year-old suspect was taken into custody on Tuesday, following the discovery of a massive haul of narcotics.
The seized substances, which included 192kg of cocaine and 0.42kg of heroin, have an estimated street value of $2.1 million.
Field tests confirmed the substances as cocaine and heroin, and authorities believe Chima has been a key player in previous drug-related seizures and arrests in the country.
According to Francis Amoah, acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations at NACOC, Chima has been a target for the commission for some time. The successful raid and arrest are seen as a significant blow to drug trafficking operations in Ghana.
NACOC remains committed to making Ghana an unprofitable destination for drug trafficking, thereby protecting the safety and well-being of Ghanaians and the international community. This development comes after a significant cocaine seizure at Kotoka International Airport in June 2024, which yielded 166.88 kg of suspected cocaine valued at approximately $6,480,000.
