Mamman Daura, Buhari’s influential nephew and confidant admitted to London hospital

Mamman Daura, the nephew and confidant of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has been admitted to a hospital in London, United Kingdom. This was confirmed by Stanley Nkwocha, the spokesperson for Vice President Kashim Shettima, in a statement released on Monday, July 13, 2025.

Nkwocha’s statement was issued to provide details on Shettima’s visit to London following Buhari’s passing on Sunday. During his trip, authorized by President Bola Tinubu, the Vice President met with members of Buhari’s family to extend his condolences.

According to Nkwocha, Daura is currently recuperating in the hospital. He stated: “On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, upon arrival in London, met with and condoled with the family of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari. The Vice President also visited Malam Mamman Daura, who is recuperating in a London hospital.”

These condolence visits were conducted as Vice President Shettima awaited the completion of procedures and documentation for the repatriation of former President Buhari’s remains to Nigeria.

Accompanying Shettima were notable officials, including Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President; Borno State Governor Prof. Babagana Zulum; Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar; and Deputy Chief of Staff to the President Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia.

Mamman Daura was known to be close to President Buhari and was considered a key figure within the so-called ‘Buhari cabal,’ influencing many decisions during his uncle’s administration.

The former president’s funeral is scheduled for Tuesday in Daura, Katsina State.
