NDLEA arrests widow, seizes 75,000kg drugs in nationwide raids

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 50-year-old widow and fashion designer, Mrs. Ifeoma Henrietta Ezewuike, for attempting to traffic 1.3 kilograms of cocaine while disguising with a fake pregnancy in Lagos.

Ezewuike, a mother of one and owner of Golden Star Creation in Ago Palace Way, Okota, was arrested on Friday, August 22, 2025, at a bus terminal in Jibowu, Yaba, while on her way to deliver the illicit drug to customers in Abuja. A subsequent search of her home led to the recovery of 200 grams of a cutting agent used for processing cocaine. She confessed that she inherited the drug trade from her late husband, despite running her fashion business for two decades.

In a related operation, NDLEA operatives intercepted 90 parcels of “Loud,” a strain of cannabis weighing 48.6kg, imported from the United States and concealed in kitchen sinks at a courier company in Lagos.

The agency also carried out multiple operations across the country, leading to significant seizures:

Adamawa: 354,480 pills of tramadol were recovered from the residence of a notorious dealer in Yola.

Kogi: 5,000 tramadol capsules, 400 pentazocine injections, and 200 diazepam injections were seized at Idah waterside.

Kano: Over 459,000 pills of opioids were intercepted, alongside codeine syrup and tramadol capsules, with multiple suspects arrested.

Kwara: Nearly 2.3 tonnes of skunk were seized in three separate truck interceptions.

Ekiti: Two suspects were arrested with 96kg of skunk.

Taraba, Edo, Delta & Ondo: Over 75,000kg of cannabis plantations were destroyed in coordinated raids with security agencies.

Abuja: Two dispatch riders were arrested for distributing skunk and injections in the Federal Capital Territory.

Meanwhile, NDLEA’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign continued with sensitization programs in Katsina, Kano, Abia, and Nasarawa states, targeting schools, religious centres, and communities.

Commending the officers involved, NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), urged personnel nationwide to sustain the agency’s balanced approach to drug control through both enforcement and advocacy.
