The Presidency has noted with concern a growing trend of deliberately fabricated stories aimed at sowing discord within the highest levels of Nigeria’s leadership.
The latest of such falsehoods—suggesting that Vice President Kashim Shettima, was denied access to the Presidential Villa—is not only unfounded but represents the most brazen form of disinformation.
We categorically state that no such incident ever occurred.
This baseless report, propagated by obscure blogs and unverifiable sources, claims that armed military personnel prevented the Vice President from entering the Villa. Such a narrative is entirely fictitious, a figment of warped imagination, and a clear indication that those behind it have run out of both facts and credibility.
Only earlier this week, the Presidency refuted similarly concocted stories about the circulation of campaign posters bearing President Bola Tinubu’s image. These “sustained” attempts to stoke tension between the President and the Vice President are not only desperate but futile.
The relationship between President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima “remains strong, built on mutual respect, shared vision, and a joint commitment to advancing Nigeria’s development. Any narrative suggesting otherwise is deliberately misleading and driven by mischief.”
“Vice President Shettima remains fully focused on his constitutional responsibilities and in lockstep with the President in delivering on the promises made to Nigerians. He does not engage in distractions nor participate in media theatrics. The Vice President’s record of loyalty, dedication, and service speaks for itself,” a statement by Stanley Nkwocha, spokesperson to the VP said.
“We appreciate the continued support of patriotic Nigerians who stand against the spread of fake news and disinformation. Their vigilance helps preserve the integrity of our democratic institutions.
“Let it be known: no amount of lies, no matter how frequently told, can undermine the legitimacy or unity of this administration. The mandate upon which this government stands remains firm, constitutionally grounded, and democratically endorsed.
“We urge the media to uphold professional ethics by verifying information before publication and encourage the public to treat sensational claims with the skepticism they deserve.”
