Not a single plot of land was allocated to Wike’s son – Minister’s aide denies false reports

Claims that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, allocated 2,082 hectares of land to one of his sons in Maitama and Asokoro have been described as “another falsehood from the vault of those whose main job is to malign the FCT Minister.”

Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, issued the statement on Thursday asserting that “not even a single plot of land has been allocated to any of the Minister’s children.”

He characterized the purveyors of this misleading information as quack journalists lacking basic journalism training. “In Asokoro and Maitama of today, where can the FCT Minister see 2,082 hectares of land to allocate to anyone? Only quack journalists would spread such an outlandish tale of land allocation in these prime areas. This is precisely why some of us have continually advocated for professionalism in journalism.”

The FCT Minister’s spokesperson challenged the online publisher responsible for the defamatory claims to provide evidence of any land allocation bearing the names of any of the Minister’s children.

His statement continued: “My attention has been drawn to yet another malicious falsehood coming from the same elements whose job is to defame and malign the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

“While it is within the rights of the Minister and his family members—both immediate and extended—to own land anywhere in Nigeria, including the FCT, no land has been allocated to any of his children.

“The only evidence cited in the publication was a Right of Occupancy (R-of-O) issued to JOAQ Farms and Estate Limited for agricultural purposes. For the avoidance of doubt, JOAQ Farms and Estate Limited is a duly registered company in Nigeria that received land allocation in the Bwari Area Council specifically for farming activities.

“So what’s wrong with a farmer obtaining land allocation strictly for the purpose of agriculture?

“Therefore, the claim that the FCT Minister allocated 2,082 hectares of land to his son is completely false and should be disregarded.”
