Fegho John Umunubo, until recently Special Assistant on Digital and Creative Economy to President Bola Tinubu in the Office of the Vice President, has spoken out after his abrupt removal from office.
The Presidency had, on Monday, announced his disengagement in a terse statement signed by Abiodun Oladunjoye, Director of Information and Public Relations at the State House. The notice, effective immediately, not only confirmed his exit but also warned stakeholders and the public against engaging him in any official capacity.
“Stakeholders and constituents of the digital and creative economy, at home and abroad, as well as the general public are hereby notified that Fegho John Umunubo, who hitherto served as Special Assistant to the President on Digital and Creative Economy (Office of the Vice President), has been disengaged with immediate effect,” the statement declared.
The move, which gave no official explanation, came barely days after Umunubo had publicly reaffirmed his loyalty to Vice President Kashim Shettima and the Tinubu administration, urging Nigerians to rally behind the Renewed Hope Agenda.
But in a swift reaction, Umunubo took to Instagram, posting a screenshot of the State House statement with a short, poignant caption:
“It has been my honor to serve this country and the Creative Industry. Now I am free to fly.”
His words have since sparked reactions across Nigeria’s digital and creative space, leaving many to wonder whether his departure marks the end of a chapter—or the beginning of a bigger story.
