Comfort Emmanson, the passenger accused of assaulting airline officials on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos, has reportedly been charged in court. Tunde Moshood, the special adviser on media and communications to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, confirmed that Emmanson has been remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Facility.
In a post on X, Moshood emphasized the need for greater caution among the flying public, stating, “The more reason the flying public should be more careful. The unruly passenger on the Uyo-Lagos bound Ibom Air, Miss Comfort Emmanson, has been charged to court and she’s now cooling off in Kirikiri.”
The incident gained widespread attention on social media after videos surfaced showing Emmanson attacking flight attendants and confronting airport security officials. According to Ibom Air, the altercation initiated shortly before take-off when Emmanson refused to comply with standard aviation safety protocols that required her to switch off her mobile phone. In a dramatic turn of events, a fellow passenger intervened by turning off her phone, which escalated Emmanson’s verbal assault.
Upon arrival in Lagos, she confronted the purser who had previously instructed her to switch off the device, reportedly leading to a physical assault. Ibom Air condemned her actions, labeling them a serious threat to the safety of the crew, passengers, and the aircraft. As a consequence, the airline has imposed a travel restriction on Emmanson, barring her from flying with them in the future.
