Police arrest officers caught on camera demanding money from tourist

The Police have arrested officers who were filmed demanding money from a Dutch rider in the Ojongbodu area along Iseyin/Ogbomoso Road, Oyo State.

The constabularies, in a viral video on Thursday, could be seen asking the foreign lady who admitted she was on a tour of Nigeria from the Netherlands to give them money.

In the 1:26-minute video, the officers flagged down the tourist who was cycling, asking her where she was from and where she was headed and told her to offer them money or whatever she had in her possession.

Interacting with the biker in pidgin English, the officers said, “Wetin you bring come? Wetin you wan give me? Give me something nah.”

The tourist appeared not to comprehend the officers’ request until they clearly said, “Give me money, money,” to which she responded, “Why?”

In a statement on Friday, Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said, “The constabularies were arrested by the police authority for their unprofessional, unacceptable, and punishable acts.

“The police authority has condemned the act and ordered that the men and their supervising Divisional Police Officer be sanctioned accordingly.

“Such an act is unpoliced and would never be tolerated in any manner. The Force would however intensify efforts in commencing the reorientation programme initiated by the Inspector-General of Police, Dr Kayode Egbetokun, for officers and men of the Force to address issues of this nature and reposition the Nigeria Police Force.”
