Ponzi: Court sentences man to 63 years imprisonment for investment fraud

The Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has sentenced Olaniyan Gbenga Amos to 63 years imprisonment for a string of investment fraud.

The Case
Amos was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a 30-count charge bordering on fraudulent dealings and false pretences. He was accused of obtaining money from victims under false pretences, promising high returns on investments.

The Verdict
Justice Olusola Adetujoye convicted Amos and his company, Detorrid Heritage Investment Limited, on nine counts. The judge sentenced Amos to seven years imprisonment on each count, with the sentences to run concurrently.

Restitution Ordered
The court also ordered Amos to make restitution to the victims. This is not Amos’ first conviction, as he was previously sentenced to 75 years imprisonment for a similar offence in December 2023.
