Vice President Kashim Shettima will represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) scheduled to hold in New York, United States, from Monday, September 22 to Sunday, September 28, 2025.
According to the Presidency, Shettima will join other world leaders at the high-level commemorative session marking the UN’s 80th anniversary on September 22 at the UN headquarters. He will also participate in the general debates from September 23 to 28.
On Wednesday, September 24, the Vice President is expected to deliver Nigeria’s national statement during the plenary session between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. (New York time).
Shettima will also attend a special climate event for Heads of State and Government, hosted by the UN Secretary-General, where Nigeria will announce its new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement. The session is scheduled for the same day, between 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
In addition, the Vice President will participate in a high-level roundtable on Adequate and Affordable Housing, hosted by the President of Kenya, and hold a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the Assembly.
After UNGA, Shettima will proceed to Frankfurt, Germany, for a meeting with officials of Deutsche Bank before returning to Nigeria.
