In a decisive counter-terrorism operation, Nigerian Special Forces under Operation HADIN KAI successfully eliminated a high-profile Boko Haram/ISWAP leader, Amir Abu Fatima, along with several of his lieutenants on May 30, 2025. The operation took place in the Kukawa axis of Northern Borno State, marking a significant milestone in the fight against terrorism in the region.
Acting on intelligence that pinpointed Abu Fatima’s location, the Special Forces launched a precision strike aimed at disrupting the terrorist group’s leadership. Abu Fatima, who carried a ₦100 million bounty on his head due to his notorious activities, was reported to have sustained fatal injuries during an intense exchange of gunfire.
In addition to the death of Abu Fatima, troops managed to eliminate multiple explosives experts and other insurgents during the confrontation. The Special Forces also recovered a cache of weaponry, including several AK-47 rifles, magazines, assorted ordnance, and materials for making improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Crucially, the operation was executed without any casualties among the Nigerian forces, underscoring their tactical proficiency and commitment to combatting terrorism.
This successful mission not only delivers a significant blow to the leadership of Boko Haram and ISWAP but also reinforces the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s ongoing commitment to restoring peace and security in the North East region. The operation is expected to impact the operational capabilities of these terrorist groups and restore a sense of safety to the affected communities.
Images from the operation have been released, illustrating the critical efforts undertaken by the troops against terrorism.
With continued efforts like these, the Armed Forces of Nigeria aim to maintain pressure on extremist groups and enhance stability in the region.
