Sujimoto boss in EFCC net over ₦5.7bn contract scandal, accounts frozen

Sijibomi Ogundele, Chief Executive Officer of Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited, is under intense scrutiny after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) quizzed him for hours on Monday at its Abuja headquarters over an alleged ₦5.7 billion contract scam linked to the Enugu State Government.

Ogundele, who turned himself in after being declared wanted, faced marathon questioning that stretched into the night, raising the possibility of detention. The anti-graft agency has already frozen his personal and company accounts, while also moving to seize his passport to prevent him from leaving the country.

Investigations revealed that Sujimoto was awarded a contract valued at more than ₦11 billion. Although a 30 percent advance was initially approved, Ogundele allegedly pressed for an increase to 50 percent, securing a ₦5.7 billion upfront payment. But state officials later alleged that work done was worth barely ₦750 million, accusing him of abandoning the project.

The Enugu State Government subsequently petitioned the EFCC, prompting a joint inspection of the site by investigators and state officials.

A senior EFCC source confirmed: “The CEO of Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited surrendered himself and has been under interrogation for over 10 hours. His accounts are frozen pending investigations, and his passport will be seized.”

EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, also confirmed Ogundele was still being interrogated as of Monday night, with no bail granted.

But in an emotional video, Ogundele insisted he was innocent, describing the issue as a contractual misunderstanding rather than fraud. “I’m not a thief or on the run. This is about an agreement with the Enugu State Government. I traveled there every week to ensure delivery,” he said.
