Tinubu, Mahama meet to strengthen Nigeria-Ghana ties

President Bola Tinubu hosted Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, at the State House, Abuja on Thursday. This meeting marks their second encounter since Mahama’s inauguration as Ghana’s president in December 2024.

The two leaders are expected to focus on strengthening diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Ghana, as well as discussing key regional issues within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

These discussions will likely cover areas such as trade, security, and economic development.

Mahama’s visit to Nigeria is his first official visit since his inauguration on January 7, 2025.

Previously, he had visited President Tinubu in Abuja on December 17, 2024, following Tinubu’s congratulatory message after Mahama’s election victory.

Mahama, who served as Ghana’s president from 2012 to 2016, won the December 2024 elections with 56.55% of the vote, defeating Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), who secured 41.6% of the vote.
