President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of officer and soldiers from the 29 Task Force Brigade under Operation HADIN KAI following a coordinated terrorist attack on their camp in Benisheikh, Borno State.
The Defence Headquarters confirmed that the attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday, April 9, 2026, resulting in multiple casualties among the troops.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President extended heartfelt condolences to the military and the families of the fallen soldiers, urging them to remain strong despite the painful loss.
Tinubu praised the bravery and resilience of the troops, noting that they fought gallantly to repel the attackers and prevent insurgents from overrunning nearby communities. He described the fallen soldiers as “unforgettable heroes” whose sacrifices would never be in vain.
The President also highlighted ongoing military operations against insurgents, stating that Nigerian forces have sustained intense land and air offensives, neutralising several fighters and commanders. He described the recent attack as a desperate response by weakened insurgent groups.
While mourning the loss, Tinubu urged military personnel across all theatres of operation not to be discouraged but to remain steadfast in their duty. He reassured them of the Federal Government’s continued support, including the provision of necessary equipment and improved welfare.
He also called on Nigerians and the media to stand firmly behind the armed forces in their fight against insurgency and banditry, warning against any actions that could undermine troop morale.
The President further extended condolences to the government and people of Borno State, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to working with state authorities to achieve lasting peace and defeat terrorism in the region.
