Tinubu sends Shettima to London to secretly visit ailing Buhari in hospital

President Bola Tinubu has deployed Vice-President Kashim Shettima to London to visit former President Muhammadu Buhari, who is currently receiving medical attention, sources familiar with the matter have confirmed.

According to the sources, Buhari has been unwell for some time but is believed to be recuperating. The development was first reported by Empowered Newswire.

Vice-President Shettima, who was in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at the invitation of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for the launch of the Green Legacy Initiative (GLI), was directed by President Tinubu to proceed to London from Ethiopia.

The president, who is currently on a state visit to St Lucia in the Caribbean, reportedly instructed Shettima to check on the former president’s condition and convey his best wishes, as well as ensure that Buhari is receiving adequate care and support.

Shettima departed Addis Ababa on Sunday night and arrived in London on Monday. He then visited Buhari at an undisclosed hospital to deliver the president’s message.

Although Stanley Nkwocha, media aide to the vice-president, confirmed Shettima’s presence in London, he declined to comment on the nature of the visit, citing lack of access to his principal’s full itinerary.

Meanwhile, Bashir Ahmad, former Special Assistant on Digital Communications to Buhari, confirmed that the former president is indeed receiving medical attention. However, he assured the public that Buhari’s condition is stable and not as serious as some reports had suggested.
