Tinubu signs South-West, South-South development commission bills into law

President Bola Tinubu has signed the South-West and South-South Development Commission bills into law, marking a significant milestone in his administration’s efforts to promote regional development and governance reforms.

Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, announced the signing during plenary on Wednesday, highlighting the importance of trickling down development and dividends of democracy to the grassroots.

Kalu expressed confidence that the development commissions will have a positive impact on the grassroots, thanking President Tinubu for completing the commissions for all geo-political zones.

The South-West and South-South Development Commissions join the existing Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the recently approved South-East Development Commission, demonstrating President Tinubu’s commitment to inclusive governance and national progress.

The commissions will receive funds to execute projects in their respective regions, driving economic growth, infrastructure development, and job creation.

With the signing of these bills, all six geo-political zones in Nigeria now have dedicated commissions to address their developmental needs. This move is seen as a significant step towards decentralized development and regional empowerment.
