President Bola Tinubu has officially launched the Renewed Hope Agriculture Mechanization Programme in Abuja, unveiling 2,000 tractors and 9,072 specialized farming implements aimed at revitalizing Nigeria’s agricultural sector.

In September 2024, the President approved a significant contract worth $117.83 million and N28.43 billion for the acquisition of tractors, machinery, spare parts, and other essential agricultural equipment through the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanization (NCAM). This initiative includes a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with American firm John Deere to supply Nigeria with approximately 2,000 tractors annually over the next five years, with the first batch now delivered.

The range of agricultural equipment launched under the programme includes:
– Tractors: 2,000
– Specialized Implements: 9,072
– 500 units of 80HP 2-wheel drive tractors
– 500 units of 80HP 4-wheel drive tractors
– 500 units of 90HP 2-wheel drive tractors
– 500 units of 90HP 4-wheel drive tractors
– 58 Disc Ploughs
– 330 Disc Harrows
– 174 Disc Ridgers
– 294 Tractor Trailers
– 84 Seed Drills
– 64 800 L Boom Sprayers
– 10 Combine Harvesters
– 2,533 sets of spare parts
This initiative is set to enhance agricultural productivity, providing farmers with the necessary tools to improve their output and contribute to national food security.
