Tinubu urges immediate action for peace in Benue amid renewed violence

President Bola Tinubu has urged security chiefs to swiftly enact his earlier directive aimed at restoring lasting peace and security to Benue State.

This renewed directive comes in response to the latest series of reprisal attacks, which have resulted in numerous fatalities and further escalated tensions in the region.

In accordance with the President’s orders, intelligence agencies, alongside the police and military, have deployed to the state to oversee security operations and restore order.

President Tinubu has also urged the Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, to organize reconciliation meetings and initiate dialogue among conflicting factions to end the cycle of violence and foster sustainable peace between farmers, herders, and local communities.

Condemning the ongoing violence as inhumane and detrimental to progress, President Tinubu called on political and community leaders in the affected areas to refrain from inciting further discord through irresponsible remarks that may exacerbate tensions.

He emphasized the importance of curtailing provocateurs who instigate violence and ignite retaliatory attacks.

“The latest reports of rampant killings in Benue State are alarming and disheartening. We must put an end to this relentless violence. Enough is enough.

“I have instructed the security agencies to take decisive action to apprehend the perpetrators of these heinous acts from all sides of the conflict and ensure they face justice.

“Political and community leaders in Benue must act with responsibility and avoid any inflammatory statements that could heighten tensions and lead to more bloodshed.

“This is a crucial moment for Governor Alia to step up as a true statesman and spearhead the dialogue and reconciliation process needed to restore peace to Benue. Our people deserve to live harmoniously, and this is achievable when leaders unite to address differences with fairness, transparency, and justice.”
