Troops of the Joint Task Force under Operation Enduring Peace have recorded a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to restore calm in Plateau State, successfully neutralising threats in both Jos North and Wase Local Government Areas.

The operation, which took place late Thursday night, followed a distress call reporting sporadic gunfire around the Dutse Uku area of Jos North. Responding swiftly at about 11:45 p.m., security personnel intercepted two individuals posing as security operatives. The suspects, dressed in black tactical gear, were apprehended while allegedly setting residential buildings ablaze and instigating violence within the community.

Military sources confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody and undergoing preliminary investigation. During the incident, two civilians sustained gunshot injuries and were promptly evacuated by troops to a medical facility, where they are reported to be in stable condition.

Authorities say the arrest provides fresh insight into recent unrest in Jos North, suggesting that some of the violence previously blamed on security forces may have been carried out by criminal elements disguising themselves as military personnel to cause confusion and undermine public trust.

In a related development, troops deployed to Karem in Wase Local Government Area disrupted what officials described as a coordinated movement of suspected terrorists travelling on motorcycles. Upon engagement by the military, the group reportedly fled under sustained pressure, leaving three of their members neutralised during the encounter.

The successes come on the heels of a strategic reinforcement of troops in the state, including the deployment of a battalion-strength force alongside specialised counter-terrorism units, as directed by the Chief of Army Staff earlier.

Security officials noted that the increased presence has significantly enhanced operational effectiveness, allowing forces to regain control of volatile areas and respond more proactively to emerging threats.
