The United Kingdom has applauded the economic and trade reforms of President Bola Tinubu, describing them as bold, courageous, and beneficial to Nigeria’s growth.
British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, at the State House, Abuja.
Montgomery noted that the UK government sees strong potential in Nigeria’s economy, particularly in the opportunities created by the ongoing reforms. He also praised the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), led by the First Lady, for empowering women in education, health, and humanitarian services.
According to him, the reforms have strengthened trade relations between both countries. He further highlighted the UK government’s interest in Nigeria’s Constitutional Amendment process, especially the call for special seats for women in the National Assembly.
Responding, Senator Oluremi Tinubu assured the visiting team that both the Federal Government and RHI remain committed to addressing challenges facing Nigerians.
“I believe we can help each other if we truly show concern. RHI focuses on women empowerment in the informal sector, directly touching lives,” she said.
The First Lady acknowledged the dwindling number of women in the National Assembly and pledged to support efforts aimed at improving female representation.
“We must identify the right people to represent us, those who can truly deliver. That is what we need to enlighten our women about,” she added.
The British Deputy High Commissioner, Gill Lever, was also part of the delegation.
