The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, will on Thursday, September 18, 2025, begin a fresh round of infrastructure projects in Abuja, including the flag-off of 12 new road constructions and the launch of solar-powered street lighting under the Light Up Abuja programme.
According to a statement issued on Monday by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, the new initiatives will span key districts of the Federal Capital City and major expressways.
As part of the exercise, Wike will also commission completed access roads in Sector Centre B by Dakibiyu District, as well as newly constructed Roads ILS 11 (Esther Bali Street) and MAR 24 (Kez Udezue Street) in Mabushi District.
The rollout, scheduled between September 18 and October 16, 2025, will feature 14 projects in total, including two commissioned roads and 12 new projects.
Key Projects to Be Flagged Off
Light Up Abuja Programme: Installation of hybrid solar streetlights across Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, Central Business District, Airport Expressway, Katampe, Garki I & II, Mabushi, Gudu, Jabi, and Katampe Extension.
Road Infrastructure: Full development of Arterial Road N1 (Wuye to Ring Road II), Northern Parkway (Ring Road II to III), Arterial N20 (Solomon Lar Way to Airport Expressway), and a bypass road to the new Airport Second Runway with a four-span bridge.
Access Roads: To the Mabushi Bus Terminal, Renewed Hope Cities and Estates (Karsana West), and FCT Fire Service Station (Kaura District, with erosion control).
Major Links and Rehabilitation: Transit Way (Central Area to Wuse), Mohammed Isa Road Extension (Asokoro), rehabilitation of 15km Old Keffi Road (Kado Village to Dei-Dei Junction), and provision of infrastructure in outstanding layouts at Guzape A09.
Collector Roads: CN2 (Emmanuel I. Ogala Street) linking major arterials in Katampe District.
Special Projects: Design and construction of official residences for heads of key federal courts.
The Minister will also oversee progress on previously launched projects, including expanded water supply schemes in Bwari and Karu, the multipurpose sports centre in Kafe District, the new Magistrate Court complex in Jabi, and the emergency reconstruction of the Karu road corridor.
Olayinka emphasized that the initiatives reflect Wike’s commitment to accelerating infrastructure development in the FCT, noting that each project is designed to enhance connectivity, improve safety, and expand access to critical public services across Abuja.
