Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has made disturbing allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, accusing him of making sexist comments and harassing her.
In an interview with the BBC, Akpoti-Uduaghan revealed that Akpabio would often make suggestive remarks and gestures, including squeezing her hands in a suggestive way.
One specific incident she shared was when Akpabio commented on her waist movements, saying “Natasha, your husband is really enjoying. It looks like you’d be able to make good movements with your waist.”
Akpoti-Uduaghan expressed her discomfort and frustration, stating that such comments are not only unprofessional but also harassing.
The allegations come after Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended from the Senate on March 6 for “gross misconduct and unruly behaviour” following an altercation with Akpabio over sitting arrangements.
The suspension occurred just a day after she submitted a sexual harassment petition against Akpabio, which the Senate claims had no connection to her suspension.
Akpoti-Uduaghan’s alleged experience highlights the challenges women face in male-dominated spaces, particularly in politics.
