The Obidient Movement has reacted to an ultimatum issued by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, stressing that any decision regarding his political future must be guided by equity, fairness, and wide consultations.
In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, on Friday, the movement reaffirmed its commitment to the coalition, which had earlier adopted the ADC as its platform following the Anambra governorship election and in preparation for the 2027 general election.
“It is on record that His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi aligned with the coalition’s position after the Anambra State Governorship Election, extending to the 2027 General Elections. This adoption and pronouncement were made publicly by the party. We are therefore concerned as to why the resolution is now being altered midway into the agreement,” the statement read.
The group emphasized that Obi, as a leader with a broad national following, consults widely before making political decisions. It noted that zoning of the presidential ticket and other principal offices within the coalition must reflect fairness and inclusivity if the party hopes to secure nationwide support.
“Considering that the presidency is currently held by the South, issues of equity and fairness must guide such decisions if the party truly aims to secure victory in the 2027 elections,” the movement stated.
Reiterating that Obi is not desperate for power, the Obidient Movement said his mission remains to build a functional Nigeria by tackling poverty, strengthening the economy, and improving education, healthcare, and security.
“These were the reasons he joined the coalition in the first place — targeted towards good governance, which are the core values of the Obidient Movement,” Dr. Tanko added.
