Ruth Iwegue was on Wednesday arraigned before a Chief Magistrate court in Yaba for a five count charge of unlawful conversation, burgling of a financial account and fraud by the Lagos State Police Command.
The 32-year-old allegedly defrauded a popular tech company, Flutterwaves Technologies Solution Limited of over N2.8 billion.
The prosecutor told Chief Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun that the accused and her cronies fraudulently gained access into the portals of the company and forwarded the money to themselves.
Iwegue, police prosecutor A.O Nwabuisi from the State Criminal Investigation Department, said the defendant got a total sum of N822.3m which was transferred to two of her accounts on February and 7 2023.
The offences committed contravened and are punishable under Sections 314 and 328 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 and Sections 8(a), 1(1) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act 2006.
Iwegue had since pleaded not guilty to all charges.
However, Divine Chiefuna, the defence counsel, asked the court to be lenient and grant the defendant bail.
The defendant was granted bail in the sum of N20m with two sureties who must be responsible citizens in like sum; just as the case was adjourned to July 31.
