Operatives of the Nigerian Police Force, Niger state command has arrested a 54-year-old suspected kidnapper, while trying to purchase arms and ammunition worth N1.2m.
DSP W.A Abiodun, the command spokesperson, who revealed this in a statement on Thursday said the suspect named Mohammed Bande but popularly known as Kachalla was arrested on Wednesday at Lambata area of Gurara Local Government Area foowing credible intelligence.
Bande, a herder, who hails from Saminaka village Lapai LGA admitted the N1.2m found on him was handed over to him by his accomplice named Gora, presently at large.
He said Gora, who is also from his village instructed him to meet a yet-to-be-identified person in Lambata, who deals in arms and purchase AK-47 riffle and ammunition.
The suspect went on to confess that he was promised the sum of N250,000 to successfully purchase and deliver the arms to increase their arms capacity.
He said the gang members operate a kidnapping and rustling business around Lapai and Lambata environs.
The suspect is currently undergoing investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Minna while efforts have been put in place to nab the fleeing accomplice, Gora.
